the emotional bond

Horse’s are our love, but so often the work we do can create conflict in the emotional connection we have.

Equestrian Movement focuses our training methods on First Do No Harm - physically, emotionally or mentally.

A horse that wants to work with you

giving horses a voice

A horse that is saying yes WANTS to work with you, yet so often they feel they don’t have a say in their own training.

Without a chance to communicate, horses can become disengaged from their people.

Amigo

Buying a young and somewhat green horse for my daughters 1st horse may not have been my best idea. But this beautiful boy was so quiet and cuddly, we fell in love! And I wanted to learn everything I could. For months, under Liila’s first coach, this horse looked after my daughter every single ride, but I just knew something wasn’t right, the head toss and tail flick and tense body. When that first coach moved away things went downhill quickly. Amigo got more tense and the more I heard Liila be told ‘he’s just cranky, kick him again’ the dog trainer/behaviourist inside of me protested. There had to be a reason for him being ‘cranky’. Then, Amigo started kicking, Amigo went lame, Amigo started biting, Amigo started chasing Liila away. He became sour, scary and dangerous in the hands of a dog girl trying out horses. I was recommended to get Katie have a look at him and straight away, I knew this woman understood. I remember I said ‘should we get him to trot so you can see what he does’ Katie replied ‘No need, I can see from here’ from a simple walk to the arena.

Finally someone was listening and cared enough to connect with our boy to get to the root of the issue. Amigo had never been taught to use his hind and his back suffered from this. Katie has worked with our boy weekly establishing manners, respect and trust.

3 days ago I watched Katie ride Amigo for the first time in 6 months, then, she got my daughter on him again...something I wasn’t sure I would see again. I cried some happy tears and knew our beautiful boy was coming back. We still have a ways to go to get him to his best self and correct his previous owners riding. But I’m so grateful we have Katie to guide us and Amigo through our journey. We couldn’t have done it without you!!!

I never knew the obstacles and challenges that I would face, becoming a horse owner in my 40’s for the first time. Feeling disillusioned, I found Katie and Sarah at Equestrian Movement and haven’t looked back. Not only are they so approachable, their ethos is just what I was looking for and their never ending support is fantastic.

My relationship with my horse has improved so much since joining their Training Trainability programme and the Improve your Relationship workshops have introduced me to a wonderful group of like minded horse owners.

I now have a beautiful bond and trust with my horse, thanks to these two wonderful ladies!

I recommend 100%!!

One of the underemphasized elements of equestrian coaching is the people aspect: helping riders deal with challenges, frustrations, self-doubt, motivation, and confidence. These emotional aspects are just as important to achieving success in our horsemanship and riding as the technical aspects. And these are, in my opinion, what sets Equestrian Movement apart from many other training programs and subscriptions. Katie and Sarah are such wonderful supporters and cheerleaders. Their encouragement and accessibility to help students work through difficulties and progress on our respective journeys has been such a source of support and comfort to me. The community they foster is also a great asset to the program — it’s so nice to feel connected to other riders and share experiences, successes, and struggles. Come for the curriculum, but stay for the people!

I have experienced a huge change in my relationship with my mare since joining Equestrain Movement.
Katie and Sarah are so encouraging and their ethos really resonates with me.
The Better Bond workshop was fantastic, a great place for us to start.
Katies teaching is helping me to establish a better connection with Pippa. We are learning to trust each other and I’m becoming the leader she needs me to be, slowly breaking down the walls, helping her feel safe and secure.
The Training Trainability programme is great too.
I put into practice my first lesson plan today with my gelding Spartacus. It went really well! The plan was well set out and easy to follow. Best of all in next to no time I had a win, with Sparty Following My Feet.

I highly recommend Equestrain Movement. So much to offer, practical, easy to understand, interactive and a great community to be part of.
Katie and Sarah I am so happy I found you!
